ABSTRACT

49 CFR Part 192: Pipeline Safety: Pipeline Integrity Management in High Consequence Areas (Gas Transmission Pipelines); Proposed Rule   [open pdf - 976KB]

"The Research and Special Programs Administration (RSDA) and the Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) are in the midst of creating a series a rules to require pipeline operators to develop integrity management programs for their entire systems and to conduct baseline and periodic assessments of pipeline segments. Failure to conduct such assessments could endanger the health and safety of nearby residents and cause significant property damage. The integrity management program is designed with the goal of identifying the best methods for maintaining the structural soundness of transmission pipelines in operation across the United States."
