This is a letter written by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who is writing "to add the views of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to those of the Department of Justice, the Director of National Intelligence, and other agencies in strong opposition to S. 2035, the Free Flow of Information Act of 2007. DHS believes that S. 2035 will make the United States both less secure and less free by subverting the enforcement of criminal laws and the Federal Government's investigatory powers." Copies of this letter were sent to Majority Leader Harry Reid, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Arlen Specter, Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman and Senate Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member Susan Collins.
