Today's transportation industry is well positioned for global expansion and competition. All segments of the industry are currently profitable and are actively seeking faster, better, and more efficient ways to do business, mcluding more ways to make multimodalism into true intermodalism. However, some near-term capacity shortfalls and mobilization issues must be resolved to ensure that the industry can continue to fulfill national security requirements for transportation into the next century.
