Finding maps

Along with the reports and documents we regularly add, we have also begun concentrating on adding maps to help our already unique collection become even more so. While we have been adding a wide variety of topical maps some of the more relevant ones include: flood elevation maps, storm surge zones, earthquake maps and evacuation maps.

There are several easy ways to find these:

• For a quick search, in the BASIC SEARCH box, try doing a search with the word map restricted to the Title Field or the Title/Summary field.
• For a more refined search, use the ADVANCED SEARCH boxes where you can do a more efficient search by doing the same as recommend above but you can eliminate certain kinds of maps by removing unwanted terms. For example, we have collected a large number of "flood maps" and "Katrina Recovery Maps" so if you aren't interested in those, be sure to add Katrina or flood to "without the words" field to exclude those hits.
• You can further focus your search by adding other words to help get the kinds of maps you are interested in (e.g. gangs or Iraq or piracy or earthquakes) or the place (e.g. Texas or Florida or California). Just add the addition term(s) to the "all the words" or "any of the words" section.
